This is a trailer for a short documentary about a woman who routinely rescues swimmers from drowning in riptides on one of Puerto Rico’s most dangerous beaches. In just the month of January, 2025, she saved six people.
Paloma Quintana is a pioneer female surfer who has operated a surfing school on Jobos Beach since 2003. Since then she has been trying to get the government to hire lifeguards and put in other safety precautions.
A trailblazer and visionary, she founded the International Association of Female Surfers in Puerto Rico in 2004 because she recognized that women felt intimidated by what was then considered a man’s sport.
