"I knew what I didn't know. And I think that's the reason for my success."

--Joey Crugnale, founder of Bertucci's, quoted by me in a Boston Business Journal special section cover story.

Skills, Experience, Kudos:

    • Pioneering online content manager, pushing the boundaries since 1995.
    • Level-headed manager of online and print creative teams: editors, writers, photographers, graphic artists, and multimedia technicians.
    • Minimalist U/I evangelist; best online practices leader; search engine optimization follower.
    • Skilled reporter, editor, photographer, videographer.
    • "When I hired Mark several years ago to be the News Editor of Boston.com, I knew I was getting a twofer: A smart, knowledgeable journalist who also had extensive online experience. He has put both to work during his tenure, directing a staff of producers to cover some of the biggest news stories in New England and the nation. His nose for news is unrivaled, and his instinct to post news quickly for a hungry online audience, tempered by a journalist's need for accuracy, has helped vault Boston.com into one of the largest news websites in the country." -- Teresa Hanafin, Editor, Boston.com / More recommendations
Career Summary

I began my career as a community newspaper journalist where I saw first hand how the flow of information is essential to our democracy and for making our communities function properly.

In 1995 I made a leap to the online world where I began using my editorial skills to help build cutting-edge and critically acclaimed web sites at AT&T, Lycos, and a few startup companies. I worked as the homepage news editor at Boston.com/Boston Globe from 2003-2009, where I managed a staff of news producers who helped grow the site in both traffic and richness of content.

Since leaving Boston.com I have worked as an editorial specialist on several web projects including the successful launch of Book of Odds in the fall of 2009. I've also created websites for clients and for fun, including the mobile website Boston Nine-5 and RootsLiving. See full resume. See published works.
